Performance Management |
| |
This half-day workshop is based on research from two large studies and the principles presented in First, Break All The Rules: What the World' Greatest Managers Do Differently by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman of the Gallup Organization. The session focuses on how managers can unlock the potential of each employee through a routine of performance management meetings and conversations. Day-to-day pressures of performing actual work can get in the way of maintaining focus and momentum with this important management function. Successful performance management is based on a routine that ensures being able to keep focused on each direct report's progress while using one's own unique style. Participants will learn how to
- Create a successful performance management routine for each direct report that has a simple format, frequent interaction, a focus on the future, and a self-tracking function
- Lead a performance planning meeting that includes discussion of past performance and then directs the conversation toward the future
- Identify ways to use career discovery questions at appropriate times throughout the year as cues to initiate an employee's detailed introspection on performance and potential

Fierce Conversations |
| |
Based on the principles Susan Scott introduces in Fierce Conversations, this workshop focuses on how the conversations we have or don't have with colleagues, customers, and direct reports often determine our success. This workshop teaches the steps to take and the questions to ask in order to have fierce (authentic, powerful, real) conversations with those who matter to you at work, including co-workers, direct reports, and your boss. Fierce conversations are about being clear, taking action and being courageous enough to tell the truth. Fierce conversations are about recognizing the value of the relationship and expressing appreciation. And fierce conversations are about finding a way to say what hasn't been said. In other words, making each conversation count. Participants will learn how to
- Stay current with the people who contribute to their success
- Interrogate reality by asking the right questions
- Pay attention and listen actively
- Identify and then confront their toughest challenges by providing clear messages

Habits of Effective Leadership |
| |
Every day we make hundreds of basic choices, and 80 percent of those choices are habit driven. Many of those habits work for us, but others get in the way of our effectiveness. This workshop gives participants the opportunity to take a step back and assess what is working and what is limiting their leadership efforts. Participants will develop skills to
- Operate out of their circle of influence
- Manage their time and focus
- Lead from where they are within the organization
- Develop a personal vision

Leading Meetings That Don't Waste Time |
| |
Most employees will cite time wasted in poorly organized meetings as enormously costly to them as well as their organizations. Yet face-to-face communication is essential, and many decisions are made within the context of meetings. It isn't surprising that management skill is measured by the ability to lead meetings. This workshop focuses on practical techniques to lead a productive and results-oriented meeting. Participants will learn how to
- Create a climate of teamwork
- Provide the context for decision making
- Defuse difficult situations
- Evaluate the meeting and utilize that feedback

Communicating to be Heard |
| |
In many jobs, 75 percent of work time is spent communicating; yet failure to communicate is often rated one of the top two problems in organizations. Most of us tend to communicate by "habit" rather than by using thoughtful and purposeful techniques. In this workshop the focus is on increasing participants' ability to communicate confidently, be heard, and be taken seriously. Participants in this workshop will
- Examine key elements of effective communication skills
- Develop techniques for speaking confidently
- Practice active listening skills
- Learn when to use different types of questions to gather information and promote discussion

Resolving Conflict Early (half-day) |
| |
Research tells us that conflict resolution is quicker, cheaper, and easier when the triggering event is addressed early and by the persons directly involved. Experience tells us that many people delay responding to conflict, and some avoid conflict at all costs. Consequently, destructive behaviors are repeated, often unintentionally, and the conflict perpetuates and escalates. This workshop focuses on how to respond to conflict effectively -- and early. Participants will learn how to
- Communicate in a direct and specific manner
- Handle problems when they occur
- Identify critical communication skills

Working With a New Sense of Purpose |
| |
Being effective doesn't always mean working harder, often we simply need to work smarter. This workshop provides participants the tools needed to define what they want to accomplish on the job, renew their resources, develop a learning plan, and tap into their core values. Participants will
- Articulate a purpose that has meaning for their work and life
- Learn how to connect their values to their daily schedules
- Set personal and professional goals
- Identify new opportunities and resources around them

Effective Facilitation Skills |
| |
Effective facilitation skills are keys to success in today's work environment. Whether you are conducting meetings, leading a team, or providing on-the-job training, you need skills that promote employee communication and strengthen team performance. Participants will
- Assess their facilitation skills and determine areas for improvement
- Improve their communication skills and encourage contributions from others
- Measure the effectiveness of a meeting or training session
- Encourage employees to think and work together

Delivering Feedback Messages for Results (half-day) |
| |
Effective feedback not only encourages others to begin, continue, or stop behaviors, it builds relationships. However, discomfort and lack of skill in giving feedback often results in delivering poorly constructed messages and seeing few, if any, results. Giving meaningful and effective feedback is an important skill for development of others and for yourself. Participants in this session will
- Identify 10 common mistakes in giving feedback
- Practice a three-step model for giving effective feedback
- Learn how to deliver a message can be heard

Conflict Management Strategies for Leaders (full day) |
| |
Research indicates that managing conflict is one of the most common development needs of managers. This finding is not surprising given the pervasiveness of conflict. The good news is that people can change the way they respond to conflict. This one-day skill-building program focuses on practicing and improving conflict management skills, especially in Perspective Taking, Creating Solutions, Expressing Emotions, and Reaching Out. Through group exercises, role plays, and personal feedback, this session teaches the "how to's" of effective conflict resolution. Participants will incorporate results from the Conflict Dynamics Profile® into this session (pre-session assignment and processing time required). Participants will
- Receive feedback from colleagues on responses before, during, and after a conflict
- Learn strategies to enhance communication
- Practice and improve conflict resolution skills
- Develop action plans for increased effectiveness
